Environmental effects of tailing damps in the zambian copper belt: a review paper

This paper explores the effects of tailing damps on the environment on the Copperbelt Province in Zambia. In Zambia, particularly on the Copperbelt Province, Mine tailings consist of the remaining fine-grained ground-up rock after minerals of interest have been extracted from mined minerals and the related process water containing dissolved metals and reagents for the processing of minerals. The tailings are of no incentive to nature; however, they have tremendous ecological impacts if not appropriately overseen.
