In 1997 the mine was held by Lundin Holdings Ltd. In 2004, Lundin Holdings Ltd partnered with Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited (BHP) and the American mining giant Phelps Dodge Corporation. In 2007, Freeport-McMoRan replaced Phelps Dodge Corporation in the Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) partnership. From 2007 onwards, the company's shareholding structure comprised Freeport-McMoRan (56%), Lundin Holdings (24%) and Gécamines (20%). In 2018, China Molybdenum Company Ltd acquired Lundin Holdings' shares, becoming the majority shareholder with 80%, while Gécamines retained a 20% stake.
