ongoingMeaning: Community members and mine workers have raised concerns
Community members and mine workers have raised concerns about the possibility of water pollution caused by KMC's operations. The company is located on top of a mountain overlooking a water body, which has sparked worries about the discharge of human waste into the dam due to the lack of proper sanitation facilities. Interviews with mine workers have further revealed that Chinese employees at KMC prefer to purchase water from shops instead of drinking water from the dam. These reports have created anxiety among community members and health officials at Kamativi Clinics, as they fear the potential spread of diseases like cholera and typhoid in the area.
